REVISED AGENDA

Friday, Sept. 18th

4:30 P.M. Parade – The parade will line up on 12th Street beginning at Donley Street and going west.  It will begin at Donley and 11th Street, traveling west to Goliad, turning north up to 8th Street and then back to the east student parking lot.  The route has been changed due to the work being done on the streets in the usual route.  We have been invited to ride on the truck with the Classes of ’47 – ’51, or if we’d rather we can find a shady spot along the route and watch the parade.

6:00 P.M. after Parade Meet at Cowboys on FM700 for supper.  We will pay on separate checks, but do need to know how many to plan for.  They have reserved the back section for our class.

7:30 P.M. – Steer Football Game.  You will need to get your own tickets at the gate.

Reception at HCJC Campus – Fireside room, Howard College Student Union Building

Saturday, Sept. 19th

8:00 A.M. - Registration at Dora Roberts Community Center (old Cosden Club), 100 Whipkey Drive (turn right off of Highway 87 across from Day’s Inn).  Bring your yearbooks and picture albums, as well as pictures of your family, for everyone to enjoy.

8:00 A.M. - Golf at the Big Spring Country Club.  Green fees are $26.50 and carts are $11.00 for a total of $37.50.  Reservations must be made in advance.  Let me know if you want to play.  We will be playing with members of classes ’47 through ’51.  As of today, we do not have any entries for golf.

10:00 A.M. - Tour of restoration projects as guests of Classes of 1947-1951.  This will be a caravan of vehicles and will guide you to see the old Runnels gym which is now Life Church, the statue in honor of Medal of Honor recipient George O’Brien at the V.A. Medical Center, and the Settles Hotel.  We’ll need to know if you want to join this caravan so we can let Pat Simmons know.  Those going will meet at the HCJC Student Union Building.

1:00 P.M. - Lunch at Papa Georgio’s – Pay as you start through buffet and go to back room which has been reserved for our class.  Frank Griffin will greet the class and introduce the speakers.  Ken Briden will talk to us about researching and writing his trilogy of books based loosely on the life of his great, great-grandfather who immigrated to the United States and became a Texas Ranger.   Donna Boyter will talk to us about the life and times of Jim ‘Ace’ Boyter.  Jim was one of our favorite classmates, and this should be very interesting.

The room is reserved for three hours so we can visit until time to go back to the Dora Roberts CC for the business meeting.

5:00 P.M. – Business meeting at Dora Roberts Civic Center.  Bring notes for planning our 60th, like:  Do we want to have our reunion somewhere else?….Dallas/Ft. Worth, Granbury, Fredericksburg, etc….or do we want to get together in Big Spring?  Who will be coordinator of reunion?  Daury Cockrell and Janice Minter think maybe it’s time for someone else to make the plans.  Be thinking about it, okay?  Other items of discussion????

6:30 P.M. – Catered dinner at Dora Roberts Civic Center.  Frank Griffith will greet our class and introduce the Satin Strings of Permian High School in Odessa.  They are an elite 28 piece strolling ensemble.  Students are chosen for membership based on character, musical ability, dedication and academic achievement.  This group of highly motivated musicians perform as a community service promoting the fine arts through West Texas and the nation.  They are fabulous!

If we have time, we’d like to have everyone bring us up to date on what they’ve been doing since our last reunion.  Be prepared, okay?

After we are finished with dinner and the entertainment, we have been invited to join the Classes of 1947-1951 at the Stampede for dancing to the music of Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys.   We’ll need to know if you plan to go so we can give Jody a rough estimate.

Hope you’ll have a wonderful time at our 55th class reunion, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!

****************************

Here we are again, you youngsters of the Class of 1954, looking for a word from you.  Thanks to those who have already gotten back in touch!  It’s good to know you’re alive and kicking!  We’ve had about thirty affirmative responses to date.   We are including an agenda and would like to know which activities you’d like to participate in.  At our age, we can do as we jolly well please, right?  As stated in a previous letter, we’ll have the Dora Roberts Community Center all day Saturday, if we just want to hang out and visit.  Listed below are the hotels with prices.  You’ll need to mention the Class of ’54 in order to get the special rates on the first two. Since all the hotels now offer breakfast, we have decided not to have breakfast at the Dora Roberts Center Saturday morning.  We will have snacks to serve during the day.  Here’s what you can offer in return:

We mainly just want to hear from you!  Hello – are you out there???  Do you have any other suggestions?  We’d surely love to know if you’re going to make it to the homecoming reunion and what special things you’d like to do.  Also, we’d like to have updates on any classmates you may know about who have moved, etc.  The hotels where we have reserved rooms:

Best Western Palace Inn, 915 Lamesa Hwy (southwest of I20 at Hwy 87), 432-264-1500, hot breakfast included.

Holiday Inn Express, 1109 N. Aylesford (southeast of I20 at Hwy 87) 432-263-5400, hot breakfast included.

You can get a better room rate by using the internet for these additional hotels.  No reservations have been made for the Class of ’54.

Comfort Inn, 2900 E. I20, 432-267-4553.  $70 and up, per room.  Hot breakfast included.

Quality Inn, 300 Tulane, 432-264-7086.  1 bed - $57; 2 beds - $61.  Hot breakfast included.

Days Inn, 2701 S. Gregg, 432-267-5237. $74 - $76.  Breakfast consisting of cereals and breads.

Study the agenda, and get back to me if you haven’t already, okay?  We need to know how many to plan for before too much longer.  We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again!  We especially need to know how many will be going to dinner Friday night at Cowboys, and to lunch Saturday at Just Peachy.  Of course, we also need to know how many there will be at the catered dinner Saturday night.
