Bobby Maines Bobby Maines (Class
of 1951), died February 1, 2001. Donald Wren
(Class of 1950), notified the Exes Association and the Big Spring Herald of the
loss. Following this, Jack Little
(Class of 1951) sent the Association a check given in Bobby's honor. This
check has been deposited to the account of the association, and will go the
continuation of the work of the Association, which attempts to "keep us all
as one through these years that have come". Tony
Claxton, Class of 1978, sent

for Bobby Maines June 8, 1934 - February 1,2001
Bobby Maines passed away on Sunday evening,
February 11, 2001, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a lengthy
illness. He was 66 years old, born June 8, 1934, in O'Donnell, Texas, the only
child of A.B. and Gladys Maines. At his request his body will be cremated.
Bobby was quite young when his family moved to Big Spring, where he grew up and
attended local schools. He was an outstanding basketball player at Big
Spring High School where he established the scoring record in 1951. He attended
Howard College and received additional honors playing on one of the best Junior
College teams of that era. He later played basketball at Texas Western, now the
University of Texas at El Paso. He was also in the U.S. Marine Corps for two
years and is a Korean War veteran.
He is survived by his former wife Mary, of Las Vegas (a caring companion
during these last months of his lengthy illness), two sons (Mike Maines and
his wife of Henderson, NV, and Terry Maines of Escondido, CA) and one
granddaughter. Another son preceded him in death. Bobby Maines also had many,
many friends in the Big Spring area as well as in Texas and elsewhere.
